VSAT & SCPC

VSAT (an acronym for "Very Small Aperture Terminal") is a low-cost shared media system that allows for the two-way transmission of data, facsimile and voice sharing a single pair of frequencies on a satellite between many users. Through strategic partners, SAS provides a reliable system for VSAT transmission. VSAT is a useful, cost-effective communication system for a small number of users (up to 20) with a limited up/download response time.

There are occasional problems with VSAT technology in the variation of network load and response times, hence the potential need for real time or mission critical data streams at peak times and the need for greater security. For this need, SAS and its partners provide an access system called "SCPC" (Single Channel Per Carrier). With such a system, every remote environment has dedicated satellite capacity and does not share it with any others. An SCPC application is a reliable approach that can guarantee quality of service in terms of data transmission rates and voice quality, albeit at higher running costs because the satellite capacity is not shared. Our SCPC system provides advanced bandwidth management techniques based on the Cisco line of switching, routing and voice deliver products, thus achieving high bandwidth efficiencies and quality of service. Achievable data rates are in the range of 128 kilobits per second for smaller systems to multi megabit per second in the case of larger systems. These satellite communications systems can support communities of a few users through to several thousand.
